Sample Making

Before production, there's the sample

Every great garment starts as a sample. It's the first time your design exists in three dimensions — the moment you can hold it, try it on, and see what works and what doesn't. At Sew-Rite Studio, we make professional garment samples for designers in Toronto who want to get their designs right before committing to production.

Who sample making is for

Our sample making service is made for designers who aren't ready for production yet:

  • New designers developing their first collection who need to see their ideas made real

  • Emerging brands testing new styles before adding them to their line

  • Designers refining fit who need a physical garment to fit, adjust, and approve

  • Anyone preparing for production who needs salesman samples, fit samples, or pre-production samples

You don't need to know manufacturing. You just need your designs — sketches, references, tech packs, or even just a clear idea. We'll help you figure out the rest.

How sample making works

  1. Share your design. Bring us your sketches, tech pack, reference garments, or fabric. We'll review everything with you and flag anything that needs decisions or can be improved.

  2. We sew your sample. Our Toronto team cuts and sews your garment to your specifications, with the same care we'd give a production run.

  3. You fit and review. Try the sample on, test the fit, check the details. This is your chance to change anything.

  4. We revise. Most designs go through more than one sample. We adjust the pattern and re-sew until the garment is exactly right.

Once your sample is approved, you're ready for production — and because we made the sample, we already know your garment inside and out.

Sampling is a conversation

Sampling is an iterative process — most samples take one to two months to develop, because every round of revisions makes the garment better. Working with a Toronto sample maker keeps those rounds tight: in-person fittings at our Dundas Street West studio, and direct conversation with the people sewing your garments. Nothing gets lost between revisions.
